Indiana Blood Center's Transfusion Medicine Education Program began with the development of Blood Bank Crash Courses in 2001 and its Specialist in Blood Banking program in 2005.
The purpose of these classes is to supply continuing blood bank education to lab professionals. The objective is to provide a review of technical blood bank topics for technologists. The classes include a theory review, technical review and case studies.
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and AABB have accredited Indiana Blood Center's SBB program for students from Indiana and around the nation. The 12-month program combines online modules with clinical/administrative and technical rotations and transfusion medicine professional development. The program leads to the certificate of completion from Indiana Blood Center that qualifies the student to take the ASCP SBB certification exam.
