How the Program Works

Indiana Blood Center's Specialist in Blood Banking program lasts 12 months and consists of three distinct aspects: an online component, a clinical rotation component and a professional development component. To successfully complete the program, one must:

 

  • Successfully pass all online exams and quizzes with an average score of ≥ 75%.
  • Successfully complete all clinical, technical and administrative rotations.
  • Successfully complete all required professional development tasks:
    • One Journal Club Presentation
    • One blood bank lecture
    • A research project
    • A minimum number of additional continuing education activities including, but not limited to, literature reviews, attendance at transfusion medicine lectures, attendance at state/local or national conferences, or management projects.

 

TME-SBB Program Component Descriptions

 

When all tasks are successfully completed, the participant receives a certification of completion and is eligible to take the Specialist in Blood Banking examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists. No academic credit is granted for this program, nor is a degree awarded.
