The admission policy of the IBC TME-SBB is non-discriminatory. All applicants meeting the following requirements will be evaluated for admission into the program, regardless of race, religion, creed, national origin or disabling conditions.
Basic requirements include:
- Certification as a MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, to include 16 semester hours of biology (with one semester of microbiology), 16 semester hours of chemistry (with one semester of biochemistry) and one semester hour of math or a master's or doctorate degree in chemistry, biology, immunology, immunohematology, allied health or an appropriately related field.
- At least two years of post-baccalaureate full-time transfusion service experience.
- United States citizen or legal resident.
Before completing the online application, interested candidates will be asked the following three qualifying questions. If the answer is not yes to each, the candidate will not be able to complete the application.

Other requirements
Participants are responsible for their own housing, books, reagents and supplies, transportation and medical insurance.

Software: An anti-virus program, and a productivity package such as Microsoft Office that includes spreadsheets and word processing programs. Antiviral programs must be kept current for new types of computer infections throughout the program.

Other: An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is mandatory and Internet access, DSL preferred. Participants should demonstrate basic computing skills including knowledge of an office productivity suite (MS office or other), electronic mail & Internet browsers.

Participants have access to the libraries of the Indiana Blood Center and the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Library system.
