Byron Buhner is President and Chief Executive Officer of Indiana Blood Center with over 30 years of service, 23 as president. He is directly responsible for the administration and operation of all nine Indiana Blood Center donor centers and all related testing activities. Byron's focus is on strategic planning, program development, capital acquisitions, policy formulation, and special services. Indiana Blood Center provides 170,000 blood components for transfusion procedures annually and is also a donor testing facility for other blood centers, screening over 340,000 donor samples per year. Revenues exceed 70 million dollars annually and Indiana Blood Center is among the top 20 community blood centers nationally. Indiana Blood Center employs over 435 individuals, each performing unique duties and responsibilities to assure a safe and uninterrupted supply of blood to over 60 Indiana hospitals. Byron completed his Bachelor of Arts at IUPUI and his Masters of Science Degree at Indiana University, Bloomington. Byron joined Indiana Blood Center in February of 1982 serving as Associate Executive Director/COO and Administrator of the Indiana Blood Center Foundation before gaining his current position in 1988. |

Dan A. Waxman, M.D. is Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Indiana Blood Center and is Clinical Professor of Pathology at Indiana University Medical Center. Dr. Waxman received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, followed by his medical degree from the University of Kansas. After completing a Pathology Residency and a Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine, Dr. Waxman held positions at the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City, BloodCare in Dallas and was the Chief Executive Officer of the Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross in Detroit. Dr. Waxman is directly responsible for all clinical aspects of Indiana Blood Center to include our donor/patient services, transplant compatibility lab, immunohematology lab and determination of medical suitability for community blood donors. He currently serves as the President of America’s Blood Centers, North America’s largest network of community blood programs. |

Michael Parejko is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Indiana Blood Center. In his role, he is responsible for Indiana Blood Center’s business strategies and directing all collection, production, testing and labeling operations as well as distribution of blood components. Mike also oversees Indiana Blood Center’s information technology, human resources, materials management and plant services departments. Prior to this position, Mike was Vice President of Quality Systems and was responsible for risk management, regulatory affairs, process improvement and quality assurance for Indiana Blood Center. In this position, he led the Blood Center’s European Union Inspection Team, chaired quality workshops and served on several national task forces relating to quality initiatives. He currently serves as the Chairman of the America’s Blood Centers Meetings Committee, as well as being a member of the Foundation of America’s Blood Centers Grants Committee, the CaridianBCT Awards of Excellence Committee and the Appropriate Inventory Management (AIM) Software Task Force. Mike has a master’s degree in management from Indiana Wesleyan University and is a medical technologist, certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. |

Tim Bryant is Vice President of Administration and Chief Information Officer of Indiana Blood Center. Tim has direct responsibility for the Information Technology, Human Resources, Plant Services and Project Management departments. Tim has been with Indiana Blood Center since 1997. In his past, he founded his own Information Technology/Human Resource consulting company, and has taught as an adjunct faculty member for Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Tim completed his Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from Purdue University, an MBA degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and is certified as a Specialist in Human Resource Management. He is a member of the Society for Information Management (SIM) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). |

Lora Vossen Poore is Vice President of Quality Systems of Indiana Blood Center. Lora received her bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. She held positions as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at United Hospital and the Grand Forks Clinic, before moving to San Antonio, Texas in 1988. Lora was an instructor in the Medical Technology Program at the University of Texas Health Care Science Center and held Clinical Laboratory positions at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, before moving to Houston, Texas in 1998. Lora held the position of Quality Assurance Manager at Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, where she also earned her Specialty in Blood Banking (SBB) certification before moving to Indiana where she accepted the position of Quality Assurance Manager with Indiana Blood Center in 2004. Lora has been Vice President of Quality Systems for Indiana Blood Center since September 2005 and is directly responsible for oversight of all compliance, quality assurance, regulatory and training activities of the Center. She has direct oversight of the Quality Assurance, Training & Development and Risk Management departments. |

Julie Cruz, M.D. is Associate Medical Director of Indiana Blood Center and is a Volunteer Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University Medical Center. Dr. Cruz received bachelor’s degrees at the University of Alabama and Manchester College, followed by her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed a Pathology Residency and Transfusion Medicine Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana Blood Center. Since completing her fellowship in 2006 she has been employed by Indiana Blood Center, first as Assistant Medical Director, then in her current role as Associate Medical Director. Dr. Cruz is a past president of the Indiana State Association of Blood Banks (ISABB), and currently serves on the AABB Circular of Information committee. She is the program director of IBC’s Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) Program. Most recently she coauthored a chapter on Blood Utilization Management for Modern Blood Banking and Transfusion Practices, 6th ed. (Denise M. Harmening, ed., in press). Dr. Cruz is responsible for clinical consultation in all areas of Blood Center operations, including donor/patient services, clinical services, HLA/DNA lab, immunohematology lab, determination of medical suitability for community blood donors and consultation regarding specific patient or transfusion medicine issues with medical professionals at IBC’s customer hospitals. |

Wendy Mehringer is Chief Marketing Officer of Indiana Blood Center and is responsible for the organization’s community, corporate and hospital relations as well as brand management and public affairs. Wendy oversees marketing and donor recruitment departments. Wendy joined Indiana Blood Center in 2009 after three years working on the account from the organization’s marketing agency. With a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a master’s degree in Public Relations, Wendy is currently pursuing her MHA at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. |

Jennifer Jones is an Executive Administrative Assistant of Indiana Blood Center. She is responsible for providing high-level administrative support to the President/Chief Executive Officer, Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Marketing Officer. Jennifer also serves as Assistant Secretary to the Indiana Blood Center Board of Directors. Jennifer has been with Indiana Blood Center since March 2008. She has over ten years experience as an Executive Assistant and is currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. | |
